Alec Bradley Tempus Centuria Cigar

Alec Bradley Tempus Centuria Cigar – One of the Top 25 Cigars of 2008

by Johnny Mixx on June 21, 2009

Alec Bradley TempusProduced at Fabrica de Tabacos Raices Cubanas in Honduras, Tempus is Latin for “time” which is more than an appropriate title for this blend. Alan Rubin began purchasing the best wrapper from this one particular farm, along the border of Honduras and Nicaragua in small amounts, Over a period of several years, he finally obtained enough to produce a phenomenal cigar; one that balances strength with flavor, creating a very smooth character.

Alec Bradley Tempus contains a mix of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos, held tightly together by an Indonesian binder. These leaves are then concealed with a Honduran grown Habano wrapper, which adds a bit more strength to the blend along with some spicy undertones. Upon lighting, Tempus produces notes of pepper and earth with some nuances of espresso in the aftertaste.

Cigar Aficionado’s Cigar Insider awarded Alec Bradley Tempus a ‘94’ rating! Other critics also gave the Tempus rave reviews. So, I just had to try one myself and see if the praise was merited. Believe the hype! One of the best cigars you will ever smoke.

Appearance : ★★★★☆
The cigar is beautiful, solidly constucted, firm to the touch and definitely enticing. The smell on the wrapper was very nice with a hint of raw earthiness and mature tobacco. The Habano-seed wrapper hails from a small tobacco field located on the border of Nicaragua and Honduras, capturing the rich, hearty flavors of Honduras. The color on the wrapper is oily and deep brown.

Construction : ★★★★★
The smoke is rich and very consistent. It was a little hesitant toward the middle of the cigar. But the flavor remained consistent. Draw and burn are flawless. The draw was easy and it burned perfectly even through out, right down to the nub.

Flavor : ★★★★★
With every puff you get strong nutty and roasted coffee notes. This is a medium to full body cigar. It got a little heavier in the second half, but retained its easy draw and its flavor. The tastes of coffee and chocolate are magnificent! So smooth you don’t even realize you’re smoking a cigar.

Value : ★★★★☆
This cigar is priced around $9.00 per stick as a single purchase, and I believe an excellent value. Overall it was a great smoke, one that I would easily recommend to anyone searching for a new smoke to try in the $10 and under price range.

Overall Rating : ★★★★½
Overall this was a very pleasing cigar. As the cigar burns, hints of spice overwhelm the palate but then mellow towards the nub. This cigar is never overbearing and is incredibly balanced, allowing for a smooth, full-bodied experience with a medium finish.
