CAO Brazilia Gol Cigar

CAO Brazilia Gol Cigar Review

by Johnny Mixx on September 22, 2009

CAO Brazilai GolThe Brazilia is the fuller-bodied side of CAO. Its dark and spicy wrapper make it very flavorful with a long earthy finish. CAO is the maker of some of the highest rated brands in the world.

The attention they have attracted has not just been from their first rate tobacco either, their concepts and cigar packaging are trendy, appealing to a new generation of cigar smokers.

For years CAO dreamt of a cigar that uses premium Brazilian tobacco, but finding good Brazilian leaf at the end of the cigar boom was not an easy task. At the time Brazilian tobacco was not at the top of its game. However, CAO stumbled on a beautiful dark wrapper leaf from the coveted Bahia region and the rest is history.

The rich Brazilian wrapper gives the CAO Brazilia Gol a full-bodied and full-flavored aroma that carries a long and spicy finish. It is a truly unforgettable cigar, and a powerhouse addition to the humidor.

The dark, maduro Brazilian wrapper was silky smooth and showed no imperfections. Cutting of the cigar was no problem. As I had heard many good reviews of this cigar, i couldn’t wait to take the initial puff. I would categorize it as more of a medium bodied taste – not too strong. A bit surprising as I was expecting a much fuller-bodied strength of a cigar. Noticed hints of spice but the majority of the taste was that of coffee, chocolate and cocoa.

The draw felt a little tight. As such, no abundance of smoke to be seen after each puff. Loved the white ash which held firmly in place. But, ended up tapping off sooner than later in hopes that it would open up the draw. Noticed no flavor change in the second third of the cigar – medium bodied at best.

Unfortunately, the draw remained tight to the very end. The wrapper started to crack as well. It could’ve been a bad stick. The burn was even and consistent. No re-touching was required. Overall, I was expecting a bit more from this cigar and it fell short on my expectations. Luckily, I have two more in the humidor and I definitely plan on reviewing the Cao Brazilia Gol again.
