The Sumatra wrapper gives this cigar a nice, appealing appearance. But, my stick had one long running vein across the side. No problem cutting the torpedo cap with my guillotine cutter. The cigar starts out as medium-full bodied in flavor. There are hints of spice, but not overpowering as I thought it would be.

The draw is very good and the burn is even. The ash holds firm for the first third of the cigar before tapping off. No real complaints with the construction of the Rocky Patel Sun Grown torpedo. A flavor change occurs into the second third of the stick – it mellows into more of a medium-bodied taste. I was a little bit surprised as this particular line is touted as a full-bodied cigar with a big punch in flavor. Didn’t really experience this outside of the initial 12 minutes of the cigar.

The taste and flavor of the Rock Patel Sun Grown torpedo can best be described as woodsy and earthy. There were traces of spice, but they mostly remained in the background. The flavor almost becomes bland towards the end. Asides from the flavor disappointment, the other aspects of the cigar were very good. The burn and draw were flawless throughout.

Overall, this was an enjoyable cigar. For $9.00 a stick, there are better alternatives in my opinion for those who crave the heat and full-bodied strength. For those who are of the medium-strength variety, this would be a perfect choice to consider.
