601 Serie Red Habano Robusto Cigar

601 Serie Red Habano Robusto by EO Brands Cigar Review

by Johnny Mixx on October 15, 2009

601 Red HabanoFans of the REO have fallen in love with EO Brands latest creation, the 601 Cigars. Medium to full-bodied with a long finish, this cigar appeals to aficionados who appreciate cigars with a lot of flavor. 601 Cigars by EO Brands launched on the heels of the highly successful REO brand which set a new standard for Nicaraguan cigars.

The 601 Serie is handmade in Esteli, Nicaragua, exclusively for United Tobacco, for Don Pepin. The 601 Serie Red is an exquisite blend of aged Nicaraguan tobaccos topped off with a beautifully rich and oily Nicaraguan Habano Natural wrapper. Blended and manufactured to provide superb aroma and flavor, it maintains its full bodied flavor profile to the very end.

Because of its intense bitter aromas and long finish, 601 Cigars has often been compared to many of the popular Cuban cigars made today. EO brands is a relative new comer to the cigar industry, but has made a lasting impression on even the most discerning aficionados. Each cigar they make demonstrates exceptional quality in construction, giving you the perfect smoke for any occasion.

The habano wrapper on the 601 Serie Red looked inviting but I did notice some veins running along the side. Oily to the touch, I had no problems cutting the cap with a v-cutter. The initial puffs drew a medium bodied strength with dry and earthy flavors – woodsy notes. The stick had a pleasant aroma and an excellent draw – a nice characteristic I tend to notice with all 601’s.

The flavors fell a bit short, however, with the 601 Red. This blend is touted as a full-bodied cigar but it was never more than medoum-bodied at best. Also had somewhat of a bitter after-taste. The burn was slightly uneven while the dark ash held firm for 1.5″ before tapping off. No flavor change occurs in the second third of cigar – it remained quite bland.

The burn does eventually even out but the strength transitions to a mild-medium in the final third. Overall, a nicely constructed cigar with no signs of unraveling. If you’re expecting a full bodied flavor profile, look elsewhere as the 601 Red Habano falls short. What you get is a nice medium bodied cigar.
