Graycliff 1666 is the only line of cigars made by Graycliff outside of the Bahamas. The Graycliff 1666 line was made in honor of the first structure that was built on the site that the resort and restaurant inhabit today, a church that was one of Nassau’s first buildings. Even as you tour the wine cellar, some of the original foundation can be seen beneath the restaurant.
To honor such a long history, Grayciff 1666 uses a dark and rich Jaltepec maduro wrapper combined with exotic fillers from Peru, Columbia, Brazil and Mexico. This impressive variety of tobacco gives the 1666 a medium to full body with an extremely complex and unique flavor that is constantly changing over the course of the smoke.
The Graycliff 1666 cigar is perfectly balanced, releasing a complex smorgasbord of unique flavors and mouthwatering aromas. The cigar is draped around a dark maduro wrapper that was warm and inviting. It is a torpedo so a guillotine cutter works best for snipping the cap. The cigar was firm and had no veins. It was time to light up. The Graycliff 1666 is a medium bodied cigar which has some spice in it’s flavor profile.
I detected coffee and chocolate tones as I progressed through the cigar. The dark ash held up firmly. The draw is good and the burn is even. Really an uneventful cigar so far. For me, the taste becomes bitter going into the second third of the stick and stayed that way until the end.
Overall, there are much better choices available at that price point. The cigar fell flat on taste as well – just a bit too bitter for me.
